Borobudur and Prambanan Lights Turned Off to Celebrate Earth Hour

Prambanan and Borobudur participated on Earth Hour by turning off lights and electronics surrounding the temple for an hour, 20.30-21.30 local time.

The electrical bill to light Prambanan is Rp 750.000 per hour. The lights in Prambanan are turned on three times a week for two hours.

At Borobudur, the Earth Hour is celebrated by various performance arts, while Prambanan only did the lights off. Earth Hour observed first in Sydney Australia in 2007. Indonesia follows in 2009, while Jogjakarta starts at 2010. In 2015, 1.5 billion men participated in Earth Hour, while in Indonesia 1.4 million people observe Earth Hour in 2014.

70 other landmarks in Indonesia also participated in 2016 Earth Hour.
